Kansas Adjutant General's Department
The mission of the Kansas Adjutant General's Department is to be the "9-1-1" for state and national emergency responders, protect life and property in Kansas, provide military capability for our nation and be a valued part of our communities.
 
The 190th Air Refueling Wing is using specially equipped KC-135 tankers to conduct vital aeromed missions transporting wounded military personnel.

Firefighters remove a "victim" from a train derailment, which was part of a multistate civilian and military exercise dubbed Operation Smoky Hill which is taking place at Crisis City near Salina July 11-18. Crisis City, part of the Great Plains Joint Training Center, offers multiple disaster simulation training venues for law enforcement, fire departments, search and rescue teams, emergency medical and other civil and military first responders.
 
Col. Lee Tafanelli assumed the role of assistant adjutant general - Army and commander of the Kansas Army National Guard during a change of command ceremony on July 10. He took over the position from Brig. Gen. John Davoren, who will take command of the 35th Infantry Division in August.
